OUR PROJECTS
The Resident Council has been engaged in a few projects over the last few years that have come to fruition. Our pride and joy is none other than our community garden. Residents have been trickling in to plant fruits, vegetables and flowers. However, due to the COVID19 virus, our plans have been put on hold to host a grand opening. Stay tuned!
In the summer of 2019, Hillsong, a church organization that volunteers around the city, partnered with the Resident Council and Citizens Committee to create an eye appealing landscape that surrounds both 1539 and 1536 Lexington Ave. They were also responsible for cleaning up and painting the playground in front of 183 East 98th Street.
In 2018, the Resident Council hosted a "Paint and Sip." A professional artist donated her time to instruct our residents in painting still life pictures. (See pictures below.)
In 2017, Councilman Ben Kallos funded the Lexington Houses Community Garden. The garden is now open and has been planted by residents and neighbors. We look forward to harvesting some of our vegetables in late fall.
In 2016, through the generosity of Councilman Ben Kallos, every resident at Lexington Houses was afforded the ability to receive a brand new stove and a refrigerator.
